All appointments include bath, nails, ears, sani, pads, and teeth, and of course any trimming, deshedding, and dematting as needed. We come to you and park in your driveway or in the street, and have contactless handoff and payment. We charge by time which is determined by breed, temperament, coat condition, and frequency of grooming. Every dog requires 1-3hrs and ranges $80 to $195 (p/doodles slightly higher); however, your pet will have one-on-one attention from start to finish. We also have aids such as slings to help them stand, hoodies to protect their ears from dryer noise, and lots of patience with our older dogs,… plus we specialize in skin issues and even do color!
Times listed are approximates for dogs groomed on a regular schedule (every 4-8wk). IF IT HAS BEEN LONGER THAN TWO MONTHS SINCE YOUR DOG’S LAST GROOMING, THEY LIKELY WILL REQUIRE EXTRA TIME WHICH WILL INCUR AN ADDITIONAL DESHED / DEMATTING FEE. MATTED DOODLES WILL BE SHAVED DOWN.
Payment
We accept cash and check onsite, otherwise a text will be sent after your groom with a link to an online portal. We accept Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and credit card (with convenience fee). Payment is expected at time of service and all tips can be added to credit charges.
Inclement Weather
We follow the Chapel Hill - Carrboro City Schools closures as they pertain to inclement weather. We try to work as long as conditions are not dangerous, and will usually cancel the day's appointments during a thunderstorm with lightening. If you are unsure, please call us to confirm.
Cancellations
24 hour advance notice is required or a cancellation fee may be charged. We understand that life happens, and will do our best to get your pet in as quickly as possible; however, we cannot guarantee a quick rebooking time as we could be booked weeks or months in advance.
Late
We give your pet 100% of our attention while in our care, and sometimes that level of pampering requires extra time especially for new pets; therefore we give an hour window for arrival time. This allows flexibility for traffic and any extra care the previous pet may require. Please understand that occasionally we may need to reschedule your appointment but will do so at the earliest possible time.
We send a text when we are on the way to your house. If you are not home when we arrive and have not prearranged for us to enter and leash your pet, we may need to move on to our next appointment. Please notify us at least 30 minutes before your appointment if you know you are running late, to see if we can still accommodate.
All appointments will be sent a reminder text 24-48 hours before. If you do not confirm your time, your appointment may be cancelled.
No Show / Not Home
It is considered a "no-show" when the client is not available at the scheduled appointment time and does not contact the groomer to cancel or reschedule. If you are a No Show, before your next appointment is confirmed, a No Show fee of $20 will need to be collected. This is because a No Show means a wasted appointment that someone else could have been given.
Rebooking appointments will not be set until the previous appointment is paid in full.
Pet Sitting Fee
We ask that all pets be picked up / returned to your home upon completion of their service. We do not pet sit. We will charge an hourly fee ($15 per hour) if we need to continue responsibility for your pet’s care past the end of your appointment. This includes if a text was sent, voicemail left, or you did not answer. Additionally, if we are parked in or near your driveway and you are not home and no prior arrangements have been made, we may need to travel to our next appointment with your pet caged in our van. AwbreysArk is not responsible for any stress or injury that may befall your pet should you not pick up at the appointed time. Of course we will do our best at maintaining our high safety standards and low stress environment should we need to cage / restrain your pet for travel.
Any pet not picked up / returned by the end of the day of your appointment, unless other arrangements have been made, will be considered an abandonment situation and reported to the authorities. According to N.C. GEN. STAT. § 14-361.1, Abandonment of Animals is a Class 2 misdemeanor.
Your pet is very important to us. Awbreys Ark would like to assure you that we make every effort to ensure your pet’s grooming experience is as safe and pleasant as possible. Safety comes first for everyone, people as well as the pets, during the grooming process.
Health or Medical Problems
Occasionally, grooming can expose a hidden medical problem or aggravate a current one. This can occur during or after grooming. All medical expenses for veterinary care will be covered by the pet’s owner unless due to an accident.
Accidents
Accidents, although very rare, can happen and there is always a risk when dealing with pets. Grooming equipment is sharp, and although we use extreme caution and care in all situations, possible problems could occur including nicks, scratches, cuts, quicking of nails, etc. In most cases this can happen when a pet is wiggling or moving around. In the event that an accident does occur, you will be notified as quickly as possible. If we at AwbreysArk feel that it is serious, we will seek veterinary care for your pet. If an injury occurs other than dematting, matting removal, or at no fault of our own, AwbreysArk will cover the vet expenses.
Vaccinations
All new puppy clients must be up to date on all puppy vaccinations. All adult and senior dogs must be current on rabies and distemper. Please supply us with the name of the veterinarian, or place vaccines were administered, or a copy of the vaccine records.
Showing up early to see if your pet is finished
A knock on your door or call will always be made once the grooming is complete on your pet. We ask that if you come to the van before called, that you please stay out of sight of your pet. They typically will get excited on the grooming table if they know you are present. Every effort is made to ensure that your pet is groomed as safely as possible, but an excited pet can be dangerous to continue to work on. At the groomer’s discretion, we reserve the right to end the grooming session, even if the groom is not completed and the full groom will be charged.
Pets with matted coats require extra attention. Mats in a pet’s coat grow tight and can ultimately damage and tear the pet’s skin. A heavily matted coat is often extremely painful. Mats can be very difficult to remove and may require the pet to be shaved. Removing heavily matted coats can cause clipper irritations, nicks, cuts, hematomas, and abrasions due to the skin growths trapped in the matts. Heavily matted coats can also trap moisture and urine near the pet’s skin allowing mold, fungus, and bacteria to grow. This produces skin irritations that existed prior to the grooming process. After effects of mat removal procedures can include itchiness, skin redness, self-inflicted irritations, or abrasions. In some cases, some pets may also exhibit brief behavioral changes.
Due to the seriousness and health risks to a pet with a heavily matted coat, our dematting procedure is as follows:
In the event that you request us to de-mat your pet’s coat, we will initially assess your pet but in many cases we cannot determine the severity of the matting until the grooming process begins, at which point you will given a call with more detailed description of what has been determined. Dematting is stressful on the pet as well as the person dematting. If the process exceeds 15 minutes, breaks will be given to lessen the stress to your pet. Dematting can cause skin irritations, abrasions, redness, itchiness, and self-inflicted irritations. In rare cases, if it is taking a very long time, you may be called and asked to reschedule your pet in the next business day to continue. We want to give your pet the best experience possible but unfortunately, dematting is not pleasant. Please note that a Thera-Clean Microbubble bath is always part of our Dematting Process. We have found that the penetration of the microbubbles can help loosen mats and soothe irritation therefore reducing dematting time and stress on your pet.
Dematting Fees may be charged at $2 per minute, excluding breaks. A small, minorly matted dog can take an hour to bathe, dry, and de-mat… while a large heavily matted dog can require two hours or more. Therefore, dematting fees range from approximately $120 upwards to $240+. The best treatment for mats is preventative, which requires regular grooming every 4 to 8 weeks. Almost all pets scheduled only once a year for grooming will require dematting!
Pet owners must take responsibility of all medical costs if any accidents occur during the dematting process. This includes dematting and/or shaving.
We will only de-mat your pet once. If your pet comes in matted again, we will recommend shaving to get under the matting, otherwise service will be refused. Only minor dematting will be acceptable, or dematting that can be done within 15 minutes.
